Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensiohas emerged as a transfer target for the Premier League duo of Arsenal and Newcastle United. This is according tothe latest media reports which stated that the two teams want to sign the Spanish international. Asensiohas one year to run on his current deal at Real Madrid and he’s available for a transfer with contract extension unlikely for the player.
North London giants Arsenal are in the transfer market for a player who can feature efficiently and effectively on the left and right side of attack after they missed out on Brazilian star Raphinha. The Gunners were in for the Leeds United winger alongside Barcelona and Chelsea. It appears the player is on his way to join Barcelona despite the best efforts of both Arsenal and Chelsea to ensure that he stays in the Premier League. The incoming Barcelona player has been in the Premier League since Leeds United signed him from French club Rennes in the summer of 2020.
For Asensio, English publication Daily Mirror reported that Arsenal have made contact with his agent over a potential transfer. Spanish media portal Fichajes then reported that Newcastle United have made a bid for Asensio. It was stated that the Magpies have made a €20m (£18m) bid for the Spanish international.
Asensio has not been a guaranteed starter under current manager Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. He has had to settle for a supporting role at the Santiago Bernebeu. Asensio scored 12 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions and a lot of the games were as a substitute.Real Madrid are not desperate for Asensio to leave, but he’s keen to exit the club to play more minutes. The Spanish international played 50 minutes per game on the average last season as Real Madrid ended with the Champions League and La Liga titles.
